1. Purpose of this Guide

This guide explains Deep Chill’s recommended water-care procedure where cold plunge equipment is supplied to a gym, studio, event venue, workplace, wellness business or other establishment.

The Establishment is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the plunge while it is on its premises, including water care, testing, cleaning, supervision, safe use and deciding when the plunge should be closed.

Deep Chill will set up the equipment, explain the basic process and check the initial water levels before handover.

Nothing in this guide removes any responsibility Deep Chill has under applicable law as equipment owner, supplier or installer.

2. Equipment and Water-Care Products

A Deep Chill setup may include:

• cold plunge tub
• chiller and filtration system
• hoses and fittings
• bromine treatment
• bromine floater
• test strips
• pH increaser
• pH decreaser
• suitable cleaning products
• optional MyoZone ozone unit where agreed

For temporary placements, the Establishment will usually need to provide its own ongoing water-care products, including:

• pool/spa test strips that check bromine and pH
• bromine granules
• bromine tablets
• floating bromine dispenser
• pH increaser
• pH decreaser
• suitable cleaning products

These can usually be bought from a pool shop, hot tub/jacuzzi supplier or Amazon.

3. Daily Water-Care Routine

For short-term placements, Deep Chill recommends the following daily routine:

• empty the tub at the end of the day
• clean and rinse the tub
• refill with fresh water
• start the chiller and leave it running overnight
• add bromine granules according to the product instructions
• keep the bromine floater in the tub with a bromine tablet inside
• test bromine and pH before use
• check the water during the day while the plunge is in use

The evening refill is important because the chiller cools the water gradually and needs time overnight to bring the water down to a suitable temperature.

4. Bromine and pH Checks

The water should be checked with pool/spa test strips before use and during the day.

Check:

• bromine level
• pH level
• water clarity
• water smell
• circulation/flow
• visible dirt or contamination

Deep Chill’s recommended operating ranges are:

• Bromine: 4–6 mg/L
• pH: 7.2–7.6

If the bromine level is too low, add bromine granules according to the product instructions, allow the water to circulate, and retest before allowing use.

If pH is outside the acceptable range, adjust using pH increaser or pH decreaser according to the product instructions.

Do not guess chemical quantities. Always follow the product label.

5. When the Plunge Must Not Be Used

The plunge should not be used if:

• bromine is too low
• pH is outside the acceptable range
• water is cloudy
• water looks dirty
• water smells unusual
• circulation or chiller is not working
• there is a leak
• there has been vomiting, blood, faecal contamination or other contamination
• users are not following the rules
• the surrounding area is unsafe
• there is any doubt about whether continued use is suitable

If in doubt, stop use.

6. User Rules

Users should:

• enter and exit carefully
• keep their head above water
• breathe normally
• use sensible immersion times
• leave immediately if they feel unwell
• avoid entering while dirty
• avoid heavy oils, lotions or fake tan
• follow instructions from the Establishment

Users must not:

• dive or jump in
• deliberately hyperventilate
• practise underwater breath-holding
• intentionally swallow the water
• use the plunge while intoxicated
• add products to the water
• use the plunge if they cannot safely enter and exit

Cold water immersion may not be suitable for everyone. Users who are unsure should seek medical advice.

7. MyoZone

A MyoZone may be used where agreed.

The MyoZone is an ozone unit that helps sanitise the water by reducing bacteria and other contaminants, making it easier to keep the plunge water clean for longer.

For short-term placements where the tub is emptied, cleaned and refilled daily, Deep Chill may decide that a MyoZone is not required.

If the tub is not emptied and refilled daily, or if use is heavier than expected, the water-care arrangement may need to be reviewed.

8. Cleaning and Filter Care

The tub should be cleaned daily when used in a shared or commercial setting.

The Establishment should:

• remove visible debris
• clean the waterline
• clean and rinse the tub when emptying
• keep the entry and exit area safe
• check water flow
• check the filter regularly
• clean, rinse or replace filters where required
• follow current manufacturer instructions

Only use cleaning products suitable for the tub and equipment. Do not mix cleaning products with bromine or other water-treatment chemicals.

9. Records

The Establishment should keep simple records of:

• water changes
• bromine checks
• pH checks
• cleaning
• any chemical adjustments
• faults
• contamination incidents
• closures

A simple written or phone note is better than no record.

10. Deep Chill Responsibilities

Deep Chill will:

• supply and install the agreed equipment
• check the initial setup
• explain basic operation
• check initial water levels before handover
• provide reasonable equipment-related support
• deal with faults affecting Deep Chill-owned equipment

After handover, the Establishment is responsible for daily operation, water care, testing, cleaning, supervision and safe use while the equipment is on its premises, unless a different arrangement is agreed in writing.

11. Contact Deep Chill

Contact Deep Chill if there is:

• chiller fault
• loss of circulation
• equipment leak
• damaged hose or fitting
• unusual equipment noise
• significant equipment damage
• contamination incident
• uncertainty about whether the plunge should remain open
• any other concern
